Brazosport ACS receives National Historic Chemical Landmark Award

The Brazosport Chapter of the American Chemical Society was awarded with a National Historic Chemical Landmark for the groundbreaking achievement of the industrial scale electrolytic recovery of magnesium from seawater made in Freeport by DOW Chemical in 1941.
The achievement was celebrated on April 1st at the Lake Jackson Historical Museum, and was attended by the local Lake Jackson / Freeport community, as well as leaders and representatives from Dow, Brazosport ACS, National ACS and esteemed community representatives.
The section received the Landmark from ACS President Dorothy Phillips in presence of Dow Texas operation site leaders Denise DeLaune and Fernando Signorini, and Lake Jackson's Mayor Gerald Roznovsky who presented a proclamation, he issued to commemorate this special occasion.
The Brazosport Local Section would like to thank the Keynote Speakers: ACS President Dorothy Phillips and Dow leaders; Vice President of Research & Development, Packaging & Specialty Plastics & Hydrocarbons David Parrillo and Vice President of Operations US Gulf Coast Denise DeLaune.
